Oscar winner Sam Smith is the latest superstar act to join the star-studded Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend line-up.
The British crooner joins Guns N’ Roses
and The Weeknd on the world-class billing for the capital’s favourite sporting spectacle in November.
He’s just 26 years old but already has a string of classics, including I’m Not The Only One, Stay With Me and the epic James Bond soundtrack hit Writing’s On The Wall, for which he picked up an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2016.
And he will play the Saturday night show on November 24, the night before the big race.
It means music fans in the city are in for a real treat for this year’s eagerly anticipated F1 weekend with three very popular, but very different world-class acts.
Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit, said: “Sam Smith is the third A-list international artist we have announced for the Yasalam After-Race Concerts as part of the 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix race weekend.
"An artist such as Sam further reinforces our four-day proposition of on-track, off-track and after-race entertainment and we are thrilled he will be performing at the Saturday Artist.
“2018 marks a very significant year for us as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and with three great acts now revealed, we are looking forward to announcing the final artist who will take to the stage as part of an incredible weekend of racing and live music and entertainment for all ticket holders.”
John Lickrish, FLASH Entertainment CEO, said: “We’re thrilled to be adding global phenomenon Sam Smith to the Yasalam After-Race Concert line-up and expanding our diverse list of headliners for the 10th Edition of Yasalam.
"With three world class acts now revealed, we are looking forward to announcing the Thursday artist who will complete the line-up for the incredible 10-year celebration of Yasalam and all that it encompasses – a weekend of racing, live music and entertainment for all race ticket holders.”
This year will mark the milestone 10th anniversary of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - now cemented as the fantastic finale to the F1 season - and organisers are clearly pulling out all the stops to make it bigger and better than ever.
The big race itself will take place on Sunday, November 25, with the four-day Yasalam concert series getting out of the blocks on Thursday, November 22.
Canadian singer The Weeknd was the first name revealed for the Yasalam concerts back in April and he will play Du Arena on the Friday.
The pineapple-haired 28-year-old is known for crowd-pleasing tunes such as Love Me Harder, Earned It and Starboy.
Next came rock icons Guns N’ Roses, who will take to the stage for what is guaranteed to be an unforgettable gig on Sunday, November 25 after the race.
We can expect to hear them belt out classics including November Rain, Sweet Child O’ Mine and Welcome To The Jungle.
One more act is yet to be announced, so keep an eye on our website for more details as they emerge.
