The star-studded musical line-up for Abu Dhabi’s eagerly-anticipated F1 weekend is finally complete – after chart-topping rap star Kendrick Lamar has announced for a massive Friday show.
The seven-time Grammy Award-winning performer – who has scored number one hit albums both in his native United States and across the pond in the UK – will headline the UAE’s biggest event of the year alongside superstar DJ Calvin Harris, the iconic P!nk and Brit folk-rockers, Mumford & Sons.
Lamar, who has come straight out of Compton to become one of the hottest acts on the rap scene, released his first studio album back in 2011 and sold more than a million copies of both his second and third albums, cementing his position as one of the rising stars in the industry.
His fourth album, the double platinum-selling Damn, released earlier this year, was his third consecutive number one on the US Billboard charts and spawned his first ever number one single, Humble.
Some of the biggest stars on the planet have been eager to collaborate with the mega-selling rapper, from Rihanna to Snoop Dog and Dr Dre.
The Yasalam after-race concerts will be held from Thursday, November 23 until Sunday, November 26, the day of the thrilling F1 finale itself.
P!nk has been handed the honour of headlining the prestigious after-race concert on Sunday.
Calvin Harris, who has collaborated with some of the biggest names on the music scene during a hit-laden stint at the top, will get the party started in style by taking centre for the first Yasalam concert on Thursday night.
Mumford & Sons, who rose to acclaim back in 2009 with their breakthrough debut album, Sigh No More, which reached number two in both the UK and American charts before their follow-up Babel, soared to the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic, will be taking centre stage for a spectacular Saturday show.
The band’s second album remains the fastest selling rock album of the decade – making the talented four-piece the perfect fit for the high-octane finale to the F1 season.
The musical maestros are no strangers to big occasions, having filled stadiums on all continents and even playing a State Dinner at the White House for former US president Barack Obama.
Away from the Yasalam concerts at Du Arena, Brit star Craig David and rap icon Busta Rhymes will be among the big names taking to the decks during the F1 weekend, with both taking centre stage at the Yas Viceroy Hotel, overlooking the Yas Marina Circuit.
More than two million fans have enjoyed nearly 3,000 hours of live music from 138 live acts across Yas Island and the Corniche since the high-profile, free concert series was kicked into the gear for the first ever Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix in 2009.
The race, which will be held in Abu Dhabi for the ninth time this year, has provided plenty of thrills and spills on the track, too.
The traditional curtain-closer to the Formula One season was the scene for German racer Nico Rosberg’s first ever title triumph – as well as his last ever race as he announced his dramatic retirement from the sport – in 2016. Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel claimed the first ever victory back in 2009 and in 2010 was the victor as the Yas Marina Circuit played host to its first ever title-decider.
In 2014, Lewis Hamilton sealed the second of his three F1 titles in a Grand Prix which was raced under double points rules for the first time and is a massive favourite to clinch his fourth championship at Yas Marina Circuit.
Whether you’re a fervent Formula One fan, are coming along for the music or just want to rub shoulders with star-studded names during the glitziest time of the year in the UAE, the 2017 Abu Dhabi Formula One Grand Prix is already in pole position to deliver another incredible result.
