Barfly review

A legendary DJ eases us into the weekend

We’ve been excited about the opening of Barfly for weeks after interviewing the brand’s global head ‘bar chef’, Matthias Giroud. And when it was revealed that DJ Ravin, the man behind all the Buddha Bar CD mixes, would be headlining there, it’s fair to say we were first in line.

The venue is huge, with different levels and nooks and crannies filled with seating and interesting artwork; you’re greated as you walk in the main door by a giant sculpture.

Resident DJ Bambina gets the party started with smooth mixes of mellow beats before bringing the tempo up as the night progresses. The mixed drinks are made in theatrical fashion, with plenty of attention paid to every order. On two occasions however, we did wait close to 40 minutes for drinks to arrive. This was made more frustrating when the table behind received two rounds before us. Thankfully, DJ Ravin made up for the annoyance somewhat with some cracking music. The sound system here is incredible and Ravin made good use of it with his blend of house beats, commercial crowd pleasers and some vintage Buddha Bar bangers. We’re looking forward to see what else Barfly has up its sleeve.

The bottom line Great new spot to check out. Hopefully the service will improve.
