The full line-up for the World Tennis League has been announced and it’s pretty great

Pow!

Get ready to rally because the World Tennis League (WTL) is back for its third season and it’s bringing with it a star-studded lineup.

Mark your calendars for December 19 to 22 because Etihad Arena is going to be popping off with ballers.

Boasting a glittering lineup that includes Olympic gold medalists, Grand Slam champions, and top-ranked players, the WTL 2024 is promising to serve up the “Greatest Show on Court”. With the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) and Miral backing the event, this year is set to be bigger and bolder than ever.

Let’s get to it then. Who are the superstars?

Four teams – Eagles (Iga Swiatek, Barbora Krejčíková, Hubert Hurkacz, Casper Ruud), Hawks (Aryna Sabalenka, Mirra Andreeva, Taylor Fritz, Sumit Nagal), Falcons (Elena Rybakina, Caroline Garcia, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev), and Kites (Jasmine Paolini, Paula Badosa, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Nick Kyrgios) – are set to compete.

Day one features the Falcons against the Hawks, followed by the Eagles facing the Kites. The teams will play in a round-robin format, with the top two advancing to the final on December 22. If a match reaches the fourth set with a trailing team victory, Overtime kicks in, with a Super Shootout if the scores are tied. Every game will impact standings, making each match pivotal as teams vie for the championship.

Want to know more about the big hitters on the court?

2024 Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejčíková (Women’s World No. 10) and Jasmine Paolini (Women’s Doubles Paris 2024 Gold Medalist and Women’s World No. 5) are making their WTL debut.

Aryna Sabalenka (Women’s World No. 2), fresh from her US Open triumph, is ready to show off her winning ways, while World No. 1 Iga Świątek is back with the bronze from the Paris 2024 Olympics and her third consecutive French Open title.

Joining them are other fierce female competitors like Mirra Andreeva (Women’s Doubles Paris 2024 Silver Medalist, Women’s World No. 22), Elena Rybakina (Women’s World No. 4), Paula Badosa (Women’s World No. 19) and Caroline Garcia (Women’s World No. 36).

And let’s not forget the men. Daniil Medvedev (Men’s World No. 5) and Andrey Rublev (Men’s World No. 6) are back after leading their team to victory last year.

They’ll be joined by 2024 US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz (Men’s World No. 7), along with heavy hitters like Hubert Hurkacz (Men’s World No. 8) and Casper Ruud (Men’s World No. 9).

And just to spice things up even more, fan favourites Stefanos Tsitsipas (Men’s World No. 12), Sumit Nagal (Men’s World No. 83), and Nick Kyrgios are making their much-anticipated return.

Last year, over 20,000 fans flocked to the arena and the event was broadcast in over 125 countries. This year’s edition promises to be even more buzzing, with live music performances by none other than Akon, Anastacia, Bryan Adams and Sean Paul at Yas Island (yeah, it’s going to go crazy).

If you’ve already got concert tickets, here’s a pro tip: You can snag discounted add-on tennis tickets for the day’s matches to round out your epic sports-and-entertainment combo.
