UAE ranked top among GCC states in UN Human Development Report

The UAE is the best country among the GCC states for human development, an UN report looking at inequality has found.

The UAE ranked 35th in the world, ahead of Saudi Arabia in 36th and Bahrain in 45th, in the UN Human Development Report.

The research examines topics including education, access to broadband, gender inequality and climate change.

The country performed well in a number of areas, with the report placing emphasis on the fact that just 0.8 percent of people living here are in vulnerable employment, and that all primary school teachers are trained in the profession.

It also noted that the gender inequality had reduced by an average of 6.1 percent annually since 2005.

Oman came 47th, while Kuwait was the lowest among the GCC at 57th.

All of the GCC countries are considered to have ‘very high human development’.

Overall, Norway ranked as the top country according to human development. The Scandinavian country has a life expectancy of 82.3, versus the UAE’s of 77.8, and their parliament is 41.4 percent female, versus 22.5 percent in the UAE.
