First UAE public holiday of 2019 announced

The first public holiday of 2019 has been announced by UAE officials.

New Year's Day (January 1) will be a day off for private and public sector workers, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has declared.

Work will then resume as normal on January 2.

Many of us expected this news, but it's always good to have it confirmed.

Abu Dhabi has plenty of plans to mark the end of 2018 and welcome the new year.

For a start, the city will attempt to break a world record with this mega fireworks display.
