Women motorists in Abu Dhabi are being encouraged to use designated parking spaces painted pink.

There are some 182 women-only spaces in multi-storey parking buildings across the capital designed to help ladies find somewhere to park more easily.

Parking inspectors regularly monitor the spaces to make sure they are not being used by men.

Men who use the spaces illegally face a Dhs500 fine and having their vehicle impounded.

The spaces are branded with a pink sign to make the distinction clear.

The capital’s transport authority revealed there are 18 such spaces in the Corniche area, 28 on Fatima Bint Mubarak Street, 18 behind the Abu Dhabi Health Authority, 26 on Liwa Street and 41 in Al Dana area.

There are also 26 behind Liwa Centre on Hamdan Street 25 behind Al Noor Hospital on Khalifa Street.

The scheme also aims to give women more privacy when parking, transport officials said.
