Around Manarat Al Saadiyat

This purpose-built hub for Abu Dhabi’s creative types offers a number of kid-friendly activities, workshops and screenings. Here are four you need to check out this month and beyond…

Around Manarat Al Saadiyat

At the heart of the UAE capital’s centre of art – the burgeoning Saadiyat Cultural District – sits Manarat Al Saadiyat, a haven for art-lovers, movie-goers and all-round creative talents of all ages. Here are just a few of the events and cultural hotspots you can enjoy all year long:

1 Cinema Space

Cinema Space, a fully voluntary and independent initiative, curates three weekly movie screenings that are free for film fans and enthusiasts. In World Cinema, you’ll have the opportunity to see original and lesser-known stories from international filmmakers; during Restored Classics, watch timeless tales that have been revived; with the Family Programmes, there are a range of fun, family-friendly films on show for an audience of all ages. Entry is free; just make sure you RSVP to reserve your spot before you go.
Free. Dates and times vary. Visit for details.

2 Full moon lunar observation
Taking place on a monthly basis, the lunar observation is a favourite among Abu Dhabi youngsters, where they get to stand under the stars and learn about the constellations. Upcoming themes include “The Early Astronomers” on Friday March 23 and “Nebulae and Star Clusters” on Friday April 27.
Free. Monthy 6pm-9pm.

3 LARTE restaurant
More of a “concept” than a restaurant, LARTE offers tasty Italian food and incorporates arts, fashion and design. It combines counter service at its café, where coffees and pastries are served, as well as a licensed trattoria with a kids’ menu that includes dishes such as breaded squid with tomato sauce and Italian fries.
Open Sun-Wed 8am-11pm, Thu-Sat 8am-1am,

4 The Art Studio

The Art Studio is a multi-disciplinary space that supports artists of all ages and abilities through educational programmes, classes and workshops that include drawing, printmaking, painting, and more. The Studio offers a range of timed workshops, specially designed for different age groups and levels. Taking place as stand-alone workshops or part of a bigger series, they’re led by artists. There’s also the Drop-In Studio where art instructors are on hand to provide inspiration and suggest themes. Workshops costs from Dhs100 for adults and Dhs50 for children, while two-hour access to the drop-in studio costs from Dhs50 for adults and Dhs30 for kids.
