It was with great excitement that Yas Mall opened in November, but what exactly does the mall offer for families? We sent our girl about town Lindsey Parry along to find out!
The Lego Store is an exciting find not only because it’s a first in the UAE, but also because of their pick-a-brick display. There’ll be no more tears over missing bricks or prized pieces gone awry – your little lego master (or mistress) can just grab a bucket in the size of your choice and fill to their hearts content with all those pesky parts and tasteful trimmings that will put the finest finishing touches on every lego creation imaginable. There’s even a creation station for building their own custom lego figures. The lego store will also play host to family friendly events on an ongoing basis – keep your eyes on the Yas Mall website for updates.
Fun Works is a massive play area for kids, but with a twist. Of course it has all the usual big and small rides and play areas for kids of all sizes and ages, but also the largest adventure play house known as Wizz Works – a gigantic five storey soft play house. And - this month, they are also set to be opening their My Works workshop concepts. The workshops will be based around five different themes including Energy, Recycling, Art, Super and Show where kids can get hands on and interactive by performing on stage, defeat villains while acting as their favourite superhero, create their own artistic masterpiece, make fun and practical items with recycled goods and learn about energy through storming the castle by firing sling shots, catapults and more!
While Dad browses the latest DVDs, this enormous two storey Virgin Megastore not only has all the usual gadgets and superhero paraphernalia to inspire your little tikes imaginations, but there’s also a big twisty slide where kids can take the fastest (and most fun!) route from the top floor of the store straight to the ground!

The Toy Store
The Toy Store holds a multitude of surprises and joys (or potential parental nightmares depending on your outlook!) for your little monsters across a whopping two level space. If your little princes and princesses should get tired of ogling the rows of shiny, colourful boxes on the shelves as they enthusiastically prepare their next birthday list, they might perhaps like to try out one of the newest cool carver scooters or the latest must have game or toy, plenty of which are available in store for demo purposes.
All that shopping and playing is sure to build a hunger, and one of the most novel places to eat would have to be Rogo’s – a restaurant complete with rollercoaster that delivers your food straight to your table. Sure to keep the kids amused from ordering your meal via tablet and then again as they see their meal whizzing towards them at high speed! The restaurant features a huge network of rollercoaster tracks with double loops, tornado style designs and more that will transport all your food and drink directly to you - miraculously without any spills but plenty of thrills! The restaurant also offers a special page in the menu devoted to kids favourites.

Of course no mall is complete without a cinema and the new state of the art Vox Cinemas has plenty to keep every member of the family happy. There’s a dedicated kids cinema that can be hired out for parties, the largest screen in Abu Dhabi and the first 4DX screen in the city complete with effects including wind, smells and bubbles to bring the action even closer! Vox even hosts family fun days throughout the year where kids have the opportunity to meet some of their favourite characters from the movies.
There is already so much going on at the Mall, and there’s heaps more yet to look forward to – hotly anticipated is the Snow City snow park, set to open this year complete with tubing and sledging tracks, adventure park and zip lines. There’s also the Xtreme Zone which will keep tech-mad kids quiet for hours with action activities including simulators, climbing wall and laser shooting. Regular family activities and entertainment are also planned to take place in and around the avenues of the mall, varying according to season and will be announced on the website. What more could you possibly want under one roof?
