Courtyard by Marriott World Trade Center
Time Out Says
Why we like it:• It’s a great base to explore Abu Dhabi
• The simple, smart rooms
• Up & Below – the rooftop bar and lounge
Location: In the city centre of the UAE’s capital and attached to Abu Dhabi’s World Trade Center, the hotel is certainly well connected. It’s a little tough to spot the turning into it (some more signage would be appreciated) but if you think you’re close, you probably are. An excellent location from where to explore the city.
Character: This isn’t a high-end, luxury hotel; it’s more of a place for a city break, or a quick stopover. That’s not intended as a put-down, though, the Courtyard is a straightforward place, like most city hotels you’ll find in Europe, and as such it’s hassle and fuss free – just the way we like it. Rooms are finished well, with everything you need there already or available. And having only opened recently, everything is still brand new and shiny.
Service: Entirely in keeping with the hotel itself, staff do everything you’d expect of them with minimum fuss. Checking in was one of the easiest we’ve experienced and the waiting staff were good, especially with kids during the hotel’s Friday brunch.
Rooms: Not the most spacious of rooms, but again we weren’t there to laze around all day, we wanted to get out and about. And they managed to fit quite a lot into the room. There was a good desk and chair for working at (and unfortunately, yes we did have to), the seats are very comfortable and the TV nice and big. Beds are comfortable and the tea and coffee facilities were spot on. The bathroom was perhaps the highlight, plenty of space, marble and with a huge shower.
Restaurants & bars: There wasn’t a huge choice at the hotel, but Bistro, where we had breakfast and Friday brunch, was excellent. A big space and family friendly, there were plenty of cooking stations and all of the food was fresh and up to a high standard. It’s quite low-key, so we were pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere and quality. On the ground floor is Fifth Street Café, a quirky spot with excellent coffee. It’s clearly a place to meet and was always busy. On the top floor is Above & Below. Inside it’s a white club-style lounge, which has regular guest DJ nights and drinks deals. Outside there’s a very cool terrace with a cracking view. We found it to be good fun, and good value.
Facilities: There’s free valet and Wi-Fi at the hotel, plus a good gym. There’s also a very pretty rooftop pool area.
Activities: As we’ve said above, Abu Dhabi is your oyster when you stay at Courtyard by Marriott. The World Trade Center Mall is attached, and Marina Mall is nearby. The Corniche isn't far either and a trip to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must for all visitors.
