Cooper’s Bar & Restaurant
Cooper’s is located next door to Time Out Towers. Happy hour runs from noon to midnight. There’s no need to read between the lines there, we’re merely pointing out two facts. We also happen to know the place has a dart board and a quirky dice game in which you can win bottles of craft hops. If you roll seven you get 50 percent off on your beverage of choice. If your score adds up to 11, you get it free. Simple enough.
Open daily noon-2.30am. Park Rotana Abu Dhabi, behind Khalifa Park (02 657 3333).
Fado Irish Pub & Restaurant
This cosy spot may not be the first Irish pub you think of in the city, but it certainly has all the trappings to make it your go-to place. The food and drinks are good, the service is friendly, a live band plays traditional music and you can sharpen your aim with a couple of rounds of darts. It’s a charming place that is perfect for that mid-week, post-work catch-up with mates.
Open Sat-Wed noon-2am, Thu-Fri noon-3am. Oryx Hotel, Corniche Road, Zayed the First Street, Al Khalidiyah (02 692 2218).
Harvesters Pub Abu Dhabi
With several screens dotted around, Harvesters fills up with expats who shuffle in to catch the weekend football (psst, it’s the unofficial home of the Gooners, so maybe steer clear, Spurs fans!). But that’s not all. Every Monday night it hosts a tournament for the city’s pool enthusiasts. The contest is open to all, and everyone who participates gets to chomp on complimentary snacks while battling it out. But to the victor goes the spoils and a case of chilled hops. So, are you a super sharp-shooter or not?
Pool tournament: Every Mon, 8pm onwards. Open daily noon-2.30am. Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi Downtown, Sheikh Zayed the Second Street (02 615 6461).
McGettigan’s is a bit of an institution in Abu Dhabi. Despite its location you’ll always walk into a busy room and that’s just one of the many reasons why we awarded it our Pub of the Year for 2017. The next time you’re over you could rack up a few rounds of pool. There is however, just the one table, so you might have to wait your turn. And while you’re doing that, make the most of the McGettigan’s money-saving deals on food and drinks (Dhs20 happy hour on house beverages, every Wednesday).
Dhs4 (per game). Open Sun-Wed 3pm-3am, Thu-Sat noon-3am. Al Raha Beach Hotel and Resort, Channel Street (02 652 4333).
NRG Sports Cafe
The Formula 1 replica car parked outside makes this joint’s playful intentions clear even before you set foot inside. There’s sports memorabilia nailed into every corner, and television screens of varying sizes both inside and outside the venue. Set over two floors, there’s room for everyone, especially those interested in darts or pool. And don’t forget to order a plate of beef fajitas to refuel in between games.

PJ's O'Reilly's Irish Pub
It’s all been fun and games until now, with happy hours and friendly competitions. But if you think you’re the best hustler in town, step up to the pool table and go cue-to-cue with the pub’s manager. If you beat him on his own turf, you get 50 percent off your tab (from 7pm onwards). The challenge takes place every Sunday between 9pm-10pm. Have you got what it takes?
Open Sat-Wed noon-2am, Thu-Fri noon-3am. Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa Street (800 101 101).
Porters English Pub
There’s plenty of sporting action on here and we are not just talking about the television screens dotted around showing Premier League action. Step in on any given night and challenge your mates (or the table next to you) to pool, darts, arm wrestling or hops pong.

One of the newest spots on the sports bar scene, having opened in January this year. The menu features the usual pub fare and then some. Take, for example, the chef’s chicken pie and loaded sandwiches. As for the sporting action, there are plenty of screens dotted around and a hops pong table if you fancy getting sporty yourself.
Open Sun-Tue noon-1am, Wed-Sat noon-2am. Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Between the Bridges,
Al Maqtaa (02 654 3238).

The Sportsman's Arms
The family-friendly gastropub raises the stakes every Tuesday with its pool competition. If you’re good enough to bag a weekly or monthly prize, you could walk away with some awesome food and beverage vouchers worth up to Dhs1,500. If pool isn’t your game of choice, you could try your luck with table football, jenga, darts and a variety of board games. Just make sure you keep your eyes on the prize, people.
Open daily 8am-2am. International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City (02 447 1066).
There are deals galore at this English pub that keep the regulars coming back for more. And let’s not forget the 102-inch screen that has been installed just for your viewing pleasure. But if your team is playing more like a pub team than a well-drilled Premier League outfit, you could turn your attention to the dart board and aim for glory there. The venue also runs multiple food and drink deals to cheer you up after another dismal display from your boys.
Open Fri-Wed noon-2am, Thu noon-2.30pm. Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort, Corniche Road (02 677 3333).

The central bar may be the main focus at this old-fashioned spot, but there’s lots going on that ensures it’s a full house on most evenings. Monday nights are reserved for a Hops, Burger and Bingo promotion that starts at 8pm and offers diners multiple drink deals,
a second burger fo half price and a chance to yell “HOUSE!” and win cool prizes.

This spot offers patrons the option of pool or darts when they drop by for a drink, or two. And its moody lighting certainly adds a level of difficulty to both games. The intimate setting is plush with armchairs and is ideal for small groups of friends.
Open daily 5pm-2am. Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi, Al Markaziyah (02 616 6166).
