Catch a contemporary dance show at NYU Abu Dhabi this week

Last Ward follows one man’s final journey

The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi is set to host a contemporary dance show later this week, and you can grab tickets now.

Palestinian/US company Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre will be putting on a performance of Last Ward at The Red Theater on Friday February 10 – its first ever performance in the Middle East.

The highly visual performance will blend dance and theatre to tell one man’s journey toward death.

Commenting on the universal experience, the emotive piece reflects not only on his life but his current surroundings, from the sterile hospital environment to the daily visits from doctors and loved ones, touching on the tragedy and humour of the situation.

The show, held with the support of Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels, will feature an international cast, including acclaimed Palestinian actor Khalifa Natour.

“We’re very excited to host the Arab world premiere of Last Ward, and share their unique approach to deeply resonant, powerfully performed dance theatre,” said Bill Bragin, the centre’s executive artistic director.

“The Arts Center has been developing loyal audiences for a broad range of dance and dance theatre, especially artists rooted in the region. In the case of Yaa Samar!, several of the dancers in the company were part of Badke, which was presented in our second season, and playwright/director Amir Nizar Zuabi was part of our Arab Voices play reading festival.”

Tickets are priced at Dhs105 for adults, and Dhs52.50 for kids.
