Sweet new art exhibition opens in Abu Dhabi

The display at Le Royal Méridien looks almost good enough to eat.

Sweet new art exhibition opens in Abu Dhabi

We get every possible type of art exhibition coming to Abu Dhabi.

Whether it’s huge, room-sized installations, colourful statues or ancient artefacts, we’ve had them all. But it’s not often that a collection claims to be ‘the most delicious art exhibition in the capital’.

So we were immediately intrigued by the sound of the À La Art exhibition that is coming to Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi.

Put together in collaboration with N2N Art Gallery, the works have been created by Crimea-born artist Olga Grigorieva-Klimova.

But what makes this exhibition so unique is the very tempting subject matter.

If you’re trying to cut out sugar or stick to a healthy diet, these masterpieces might just make you cave in and succumb to the allure of sugary treats.

The colourful paintings include cupcakes, doughnuts, pastries, cream cakes and basically all the most decadent desserts you can imagine. The purpose of these utterly indulgent pieces is to explore the idea of illusion.

Grigorieva-Klimova admits that she has always been fascinated by subject of food, and in particular sweets and cakes. She believes that these naughty delicacies are one of the most simple and primitive examples of temptation.

When asked about her taste bud-tantalising works she says: “I am very interested in the topic of temptation, mania, delight, deception, illusion and temptations in general. I try to solve the riddle of life, which is never what it seems.”

Olga was born in Crimea in 1984 and she studied at the Crimean Art College and the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture.

Her works are displayed in the Kiev Museum of Modern Art, as well as being kept in private collections in Ukraine, Russia, the US, Taiwan, Poland, Romania, China, Switzerland and Great Britain.

The artist herself will be present when the exhibition is launched on the evening of April 18, and it will be on display from 9am to 10pm for an entire month.

It’s going to be a real feast for the eyes. But be warned, you’ll be suffering from serious cravings for some delights from your local pâtisseries afterwards.
