COYA Abu Dhabi launches first art exhibition

Due to the plight of so much of the animal kingdom there’s rightly a lot of effort going in to working out how the human race can work on preserving certain species, and how we can change our behaviour to do so.

Humans, it seems, have won. The global population is seven billion and counting, after all. Yet Yuliia Korienkova is concerned. Enough to create a new art exhibition anyway.

“Robosapien is humankind’s next step in preserving our species on Earth and solving challenges we face as we struggle to meet future demands,” says Abu Dhabi-based contemporary artist and influencer Korienkova on her latest artistic endeavour. “This is our opportunity to avoid extinction, so let us leap together into a new era.”

Is Robosapien the uber-being that will save us from our existential crisis? Well, no: this is an art exhibition in a high-end restaurant, not a science project.

But then was Korienkova being entirely serious? Perhaps not – maybe the Ukrainian is just hoping to make us think.
And besides, though the art doesn’t have any obvious magic powers, it does look pretty great.

Having started in cubism, the artist now focuses on this particular form of ‘robot art’ as her niche.

Robosapien is the first of many art exhibitions coming to our current Best Latin restaurant, too.

“Given Abu Dhabi’s leadership as a cultural destination, COYA Abu Dhabi is excited to create a new art season in 2019 to offer a platform for emerging artists and celebrate all aspects of creativity in the capital,” says Stefano Pizzini, general manager of the casually brilliant Peruvian fusion restaurant.

Whatever the Thanos-like goals of the robot, the colourful art is likely to provide many a talking point while hanging in the Al Maryah Island venue.

Can it really command the same level of attention as a perfect ceviche or flame-grilled langoustines? You can be the judge of that.

This is the first time the restaurant has hosted artwork, but it seems unlikely the addition of a 3D artwork will distract too much from its winning formula. Whether you’ve arrived at The Galleria restaurant for lunch, dinner, Friday brunch, casual drinks, or want nothing more than to take in Korienkova’s striking art, you can do so now. The exhibition is on until March.
