Thought-provoking films are coming to Abu Dhabi's Manarat Al Saadiyat

If you’re a fan of arty, independent films, we’ve got a few dates that you need to put in your diary.

FIERCE! Part II an American Film Showcase is a series of cinematic masterpieces celebrating strong women who weren’t afraid to take on the world.

Put together by independent cinema platform Cinema Akil, it is returning to the capital this month with a couple of films which focus on female successes and failures, and put issues which affect women up on the big screen.

First to be shown at arty hub Manarat Al Saadiyat is Restless Creature: Wendy Whelan.

This film follows prima ballerina Wendy Whelan as she prepares to leave New York City Ballet after a record-setting three decades with the company.

The screening will take place on June 25 at 7.30pm and it also features a special discussion with Lana Fahmi the Lead Artist, Principal Dancer & Choreographer Assistant at Sima Dance Company.

Next up is Jenny McQuaile's Straigh/Curve: Redefining Body Image.

This interesting documentary examines the industries who are responsible for the major body-image crisis that is currently affecting the world and also the innovative women who are fighting back against it.

The event also features a panel discussion on body-image issues and it will take place on July 2 at 7.30pm and July 6 at 3pm.
