Care to share? There is never a better time to spread some cheer and show some a little kindness than during Ramadan.
Now one of the coolest initiatives to hit the UAE in recent years is set to warm the hearts of generous sorts all over Abu Dhabi again as the Sharing Fridge scheme gets up and running again.
The community-spirited enterprise proved a social media sensation last year, with benevolent residents helping to keep fridges dotted all over Dubai, as well as here in the capital, well stocked to give blue-collar workers much-needed nourishment after hours toiling in the blazing hot sun.
The original Facebook group for the Ramadan/Sharing Fridges in the UAE campaign now has nearly 25,000 followers, with an offshoot group in Abu Dhabi already garnering well over 2,000 members.
A simple, small act of kindness, dropping off packs of water, juice, fruit and vegetables, has become a huge symbol of the spirit of giving and generosity that epitomises Ramadan and has given plenty of food for thought for those keen to get more charitable.
People interested in supplying fridges in their area can volunteer to manage fridges, spreading the word to helpers and keeping online supporters up to date on when they are needed to pitch in.
Appliances are already popping up in Abu Dhabi in the first days of Ramadan, including at Hydra Village, a neighbourhood community close to Al Raha, and the Hydra Avenue Towers complex in Al Reem Island. To find out how you can serve up some extra support, just join the Facebook group, SharingCaringFridges in the UAE - Abu Dhabi.
Open up your heart – and help fill up a fridge.
