Celebrate Australia Day with poolside party in Abu Dhabi

It’s the land down under’s birthday later this month, and that means it’s the first big event on the 2019 calendar for one of Abu Dhabi’s top hotels.

On Friday January 25, you can head to LRM Central at Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi - the laidback poolside space filled with food trucks and deck chairs - for the party.

There you’ll be able to celebrate all things gold and green with a bonza barbie (shrimps may or may not be chucked on).

It’ll be a day-long poolside barbecue brunch, hosted by Sonya Mac from Radio 2, featuring a number of sets from Sweet Chilli Jam – a highly commended bar band from the Time Out Abu Dhabi Music & Nightlife Awards 2018.

It’s a bit of a chilled-out, picnic-meets-poolside afternoon, where you pick on some grub, hop in the pool, and enjoy some top live music throughout the day.

Fun fact: Wikipedia tells us that Australia Day, which takes place on Saturday January 26, celebrates the arrival of the first fleet of British ships at Port Jackson in New South Wales in 1788, some 231 years ago, as well as the raising of the Union Jack at Sydney Cove.

Packages for the barbecue pool brunch start from Dhs200 per person, including soft drinks, that ranges up to just Dhs250 for premium bundles. Kids aged six to 12 get in for Dhs60 and kids under six get in free.

Strewth mate, that’s a corker of a deal.

From Dhs200. Fri Jan 25, 1pm-5pm. Le Royal Méridien Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa Street (800 101 101).
