New fitness festival set for Abu Dhabi

The event will take place on Yas Island

There’s strong, and then there’s truck-pulling strong, and a free fitness festival coming to Yas Island next month is set to sort the bulks from the Hulks.

Yas Family Fitness Festival will take place on January 26 and 27 at the Yas Island Gateway Park and is packed full of free health, nutrition and fitness activities for all-comers to try.

The truck-pulling, along with boxing and MMA sessions, might be best left to swollen-muscled and toned-torsoed types who have not been smuggling entire cheeses, cake and packs of cookies in their gym bags, but there is plenty to try for all fitness levels.

From 9am to 5pm both days there will be drop-in and try group fitness sessions including Zumba, yoga, aerobics and even martial arts. Turn up and try your first HIIT, Les Mills or Body Attack session if you want to stretch your fitness regime in 2018.

For anybody who has eyed gyms with a natural suspicion there is the opportunity to test out some al fresco fitness and see the machines up close, but it is a selection of fitness experiences that may be most appealing whisper we’ve heard about Yas Family Fitness Festival.

A giant inflatable assault course and a 7.5m climbing wall will be waiting for challengers. This could be your chance to call out a colleague who believes like they could defeat you in a foot race over bouncy hurdles, springy slides and harmless hoops or get the better of you in a high-flying vertical race.

The festival’s family approach means there will be lots for kids to do, plus nutritionists lurking to give advice on how to make healthy meals that won’t put frowns on faces. There will also be the standard festival cavalcade of food trucks and pop-up snack purveyors.

At the very least you can turn up, enjoy a smoothie and a low-calorie wrap while you watch Mr and Mrs Universe tackle that truck.

Free. Fri, Jan 26-Sat, Jan, 27. 9am-5pm. Gateway Park South, Yas Island,
