Time Out Says
Skylite sits right below it. The whole venue feels encased in a dramatic rooftop canopy. It’s an undeniably spectacular setting, though for a rooftop bar it doesn’t offer much of a view.
There’s something quite retro and Miami Beach about the vibe, too. The whole venue glows in varying shades of neon, and is flanked on either side by cabanas draped in floaty white fabric. At the back, there’s a small row of palm trees that are silhouetted against the ceiling.
When we arrive – fairly late on a Thursday evening at around 11pm – there are only a handful of tables occupied. Still, there’s a good vibe to the place. A DJ spins groovy lounge tracks from a little booth beside the bar, and there’s a pleasant buzz from chattering groups.
On our visit, unfortunately, there’s also sporadic noise from a race happening on the track below. The noise isn’t constant, but it’s worth keeping an eye on race schedules if you don’t want your evening to be too disrupted.
It’s not the cheapest bar, but then, given it’s location, you wouldn’t expect it to be. The menu is perhaps more “high-end” than you might find at other venues, too. There’s an entire page, for example, of different varieties of juniper-based beverages, paired with different brands of tonic water to complement them.
That said, it’s a more laid-back spot than you might expect from a five-star hotel. You could easily spend a whole evening here, relaxing on the lounge seats or in the booths, catching up with friends. It doesn’t feel like a party spot, but it’s ideal for virtually any other occasion.
The bottom line
A high-end bar with low-key vibes.
