Time Out Says
But, in fact, it’s a much more down-to-earth place. There’s little in the way of signage pointing you in the right direction, and when you eventually do find it, the bar is an unassuming collection of chairs, tables and sofas arranged around the pool.
It looks, in the nicest possible way, like a holiday camp from 1970s England. There’s a huge projector screen showing football games, gazebo-type structures covering orange and white sofas, and, depending on the time of day, people lounging by the pool.
A brief glance up toward the sky, though, and the Butlins vibe is pushed far to the back of your mind. The Sofitel is a towering, imposing hotel, and it makes for quite a sight when you’re sitting at the base of it.
And as day turns to night, Grills@Chill’O becomes quite dark. It’s dimly-lit to the extent that small torches are attached to the menus. It would be romantic were it not so casual.
This is more of a laidback venue to catch up with friends. Groups smoke shisha, couples chat and solo visitors enjoy the peace and quiet.
The drink offerings are nothing out of the ordinary, but a daily happy hour from 5pm to 8pm is a good time to visit for a chilled-out and well-priced evening.
There are also some surprisingly good food options from the limited menu. You’ll find mostly Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes, plus some excellent burgers.
If you’ve had a busy day at work or are just stressed out, you could do far worse than unwind here.
The bottom line
Nothing out of the ordinary, but a good place to relax.
