Review: Fun, atmospheric and good value. Say hello to our Bar of the Year

Well, here it is. The definitive review of Abu Dhabi’s Best Bar, decided by the Time Out team at our Music & Nightlife Awards 2018.

Loca, the Mexican bar and restaurant on Al Maryah Island, has been a hit since it first opened, adding a more casual spot to the glittering surroundings that house fine-dining places such as Nusr-Et, COYA, La Petite Maison and more.

You’ll find it busy pretty much all of the time, with people perching at huge central bar, relaxing in booths dotted around the space and sitting on the terrace outside in the cooler months. The vibe is chilled, the deals are good and the place is unpretentious, meaning all feel welcome once they step through the door.

With a long-standing sister venue in Dubai, the team behind Loca have had years to get the formula right, and although we love the original up the road, we think the newer, sleeker, shinier capital version is even better.

The industrial design gives way to colourful murals on the walls. You’ll find the various big screens showing anything from Premier League football matches to old, black and white Mexican movies. Some tables even have their own hops taps on them, meaning you can serve yourself (warning, it can get expensive if you’re not careful).

There are deals aplenty available all-year-round. Check out the ladies’ nights on Wednesdays, the good-value happy hours throughout the week, the Monday tasting menu with unlimited drinks or the Friday brunch for a fun way to spend your weekend.

Whatever time you rock up to Loca you can be guaranteed a good time.

The bottom line
A must-try bar that ticks all the boxes.
