Hamilton’s Gastropub

A super-cool, relaxed gastropub on Saadiyat Island

It’s difficult to find something not to like about this chic, industrial-themed gastropub on Saadiyat Island.

It’s still reasonably new and if you step inside the venue, with its display of shiny metal barrels, cool copper-coloured fittings and chilled vibe, you’ll understand why it’s so popular. The outdoor terrace is equally inviting, but as the humidity climbs we prefer to stay cool indoors.

When we visit on a Tuesday night the place is absolutely packed and we count ourselves lucky to get the last available table. It’s the busiest we’ve seen a bar on Saadiyat Island and it’s almost as if they’re giving away free drinks (it’s ladies’ night, so that’s exactly what’s happening).

But with plates of food arriving at tables across the venue at a  constant rate it’s clear people aren’t just here for the drinks. With pub staples and a few more refined dishes on offer, make sure you arrive hungry and ready to eat.

We order the pub board to share, a medley of oozing scotch eggs, cured meats, cheese, breadsticks, olives and other goodies.

Beverage-wise there’s a good selection of craft hops, the usual draft hops, plus a varied range of grape and signature mixed beverages, so you’re bound to find something to your liking.

On a Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday a two-piece band belts out live music, including requests, so if you want to hear Wonderwall or Valerie then you’re in luck.

Into sports? There are screens showing live action and a free pool table if you want to rack ‘em up and challenge a friend.

You could easily spend a few hours unwinding here, and we find it very hard to leave.
