Blu Sky Lounge & Grill

A friendly sports bar with a modern, futuristic feel

We’re a city that doesn’t like to do things by halves, so we don’t know why we’re at all surprised to see that the bar at Blu Sky Lounge & Grill is encased by a football-shaped dome.

But really, if you’re going to go for a sports theme then you may as well do it properly, right?

The walls of the long venue are plastered with screens showing different sports from around the world (tennis and baseball are in front of us during our latest visit),  and there’s images of sporting heroes up there too.

But there’s nothing traditional about this watering hole.

It’s very much a modern venue, and the blue lights give it an almost futuristic feel.

It’s a bit like sitting inside a football-themed spaceship, and we’re weirdly taken with everything about it.

It’s relatively busy with people eating, drinking and watching sport, and we spy a few towering burgers and club sandwiches coming out of the kitchen.

We decide to make the most of the Wednesday-night deal, which offers Scottish mixed drinks for Dhs20 each. The two we try are both expertly made, and served in traditional glasses with a tasteful garnish.

We feel very much like Mad Men’s Don Draper as we sip our short drinks, and we can’t help but take a snap of the two-tier nuts bowl, which is also shaped like a football (obviously).

The staff are super friendly and smartly presented, and everything about the chilled-out bar feels clean and new.

We like it so much that we want to come back and compare each of the daily drinks deals.
