Mr Miyagi’s

Thai street food and beverages in a quirky and colourful setting

Anyone who's familiar with Dubai’s dining and nightlife scene will most likely already be an established fan of this lively Asian bar and restaurant.

Famous for its quirky decorations, including tuk tuks, Japanese cherry blossom trees and colourful paper umbrellas, everything about this hangout is funky, a bit ‘out there’ and hugely good fun.

When we visit on a Friday night, the party is in full swing at this Yas Marina outlet. The place is packed with people dancing and chatting at the tall tables.

The nightspot only recently opened in time for Formula One weekend, so we’re pleased to see that it’s already so popular with the capital’s party goers.

There are two bars to choose from but both are busy. However, we are served quickly and even at peak time on a Friday night, drinks are around Dhs30 each. The resident DJ keeps the dance floor filled with his mix of tunes. Our fellow guests are in hight spirits and the staff are consistently cheery and efficient.

We imagine that some of the crowd are still hanging on from the riotous Wok & Roll brunch, which takes place from 3pm to 6.30pm and 7pm to 11.30pm every Friday.

Featuring five brilliant courses of specialties from across Thailand, Japan and China, it’s quite a feast.

It also includes unlimited drinks packages which cover actual buckets of mixed beverages (you’ll know what we mean if you’ve ever been to Kho Phangan’s notorious full moon party), grapes, hops and more.

There’s also themed nights and various fun-filled entertainment going on throughout the week.

For instance, on Tuesday there's a ladies' night that also has something for men; for Dhs99 women get three courses and two hours of unlimited drinks and men can enjoy three courses and a mixed beverage.

The fun is also ramped up a notch by the addition of a live karaoke station. So we recommend resting those vocal cords before heading down to this not-so-quiet-and-peaceful event.

Cabaret shows are also a regular occurrence.

Basically, if you’re looking for a chilled-out and unpretentious night out in Abu Dhabi, you can’t go wrong with Mr Miyagi’s.

All it’s missing is a beach, otherwise it’s as casual, colourful  and crazy (in a good way) as any party in Thailand.

For the raucous karaoke nights and buckets of mixed drinks. Just be prepared to feel it afterwards...
