A craft hops and burger bar showing sport and live music

Stock Burger Co.

Everyone loves burgers these days, don’t they? Even our vegan friends have got in on the action recently. You can’t eat anywhere at the moment without a menu filled with brioche buns, wagyu patties (urgh, how we loath that word) and squid ink buns. It doesn’t matter that there are literally no burgers that you can actually pick up and take a bite of anymore. You want bigger, sloppier, messier, and, boy, have you got them.

It’s refreshing, then, that Stock Burger Co., a recent addition to the Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi doesn’t go down the mega-burger route.  Instead the focus seems to be on good ingredients, presented rather simply and paired with craft hops. Now if that’s not a recipe for success, we don’t know what is.

We’re guessing the venue doesn’t really want to be compared to Black Tap, another new addition to the capital’s burger scene, but it shouldn’t be worried, because Stock Burger Co. comes out on top in pretty much every way. The food is tastier, it’s better value for money and, unlike the capital’s only branch of Black Tap, Stock Burger Co. is licensed, meaning there’s top-quality craft brews on offer.

This is where we come in. We’ve already written about the food, which we recommend, but should you make the trip for drinks only? In a word, yes.

To go with the selection of brews there’s also an array of funky mixed drinks and a host of theme nights to cater for just about everybody.

There are big screens showing football, a ladies’ night every Wednesday with nibbles, three free drinks and 50 percent off other beverages. There’s also live music every Thursday night with a duo that plays everything from the latest R&B hits to classic indie tunes and on a Friday you get a full band playing playing good-time sing-along numbers.

The venue is fairly big, with booths and tables filling up the main floor and stools lining the bar itself. It’s quiet on our latest visit, but with people coming and going throughout the couple of hours we spend at the bar.

Staff are good, with top knowledge of the deals on offer and the drinks they can rustle up for you.

We’re impressed by the amount of different hops available, while those who prefer something softer might want to indulge in a freakshake.

Stock Burger Co. then, is much more than faddy, gimmicky burgers. Check it out.
