There are moments you just want some quiet time, away from the stresses of work, the hustle of city life and the pressures of modern living. For those times, we like to visit places such as Mood Indigo.
The bar, up the stairs in the unassuming Novel Hotel City Center, is hardly one of the shining lights of Abu Dhabi’s nightlife scene. In fact, you’d be forgiven if you’d never heard of it. However, it is the kind of relaxed bar that we could all do with stepping inside from time to time.
We’re sitting at the bar itself on a midweek night, and while some of the city’s premier venues are often quiet during the week, we have plenty of company here in Mood Indigo.
The bar area is full, and there are people seemingly hidden away in many corners of the venue. It’s far bigger than it seems at first.
Service is swift, especially here at the bar, and staff are happy to tell us about the drinks promotions and happy hour deals, of which there are a few.
There are a lot of draft hops available, with some we’ve not seen anywhere else in town, as well as bottles and the usual grape and short drinks options.
This place won’t be for everyone. It’s dim, smoky and a little worn around the edges, but it’s the kind of place we’re happy to see is still doing good business here in the capital.
There are bar snacks available, live music and ladies’ nights too.
Is Mood Indigo likely to bring new visitors to the emirate? Unlikely. Will it keep the die-hard faithful happy? Absolutely. Are there people, like us, that might stumble in and love it. Sure there will be.
The bottom line
A cosy, old-school Abu Dhabi watering hole.
