He was the visionary leader who turned an untapped desert of potential into a land of long-term prosperity.
The founding father of a nation, who helped usher in a gilded era and left an indelible legacy on the society that he helped to create.
As Ramadan approaches, a unique time for reflection and gratitude for all that we have been given, it is only fitting that the UAE’s first ruler, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayhan, is being celebrated.
In the 100th year of his birth – a milestone that is being marked through the ongoing Year of Zayed celebrations – Sheikh’s Zayed’s huge influence on the country has been put on display in an eye-catching photographic exhibition.
The Galleria, on Al Maryah Island, one of the glittering symbols of the bold and forward-thinking nation that continues to grow with each passing year, is showcasing an unique picture-led exhibition featuring 40 images of Sheikh Zayed loaned by the Nation Archive.
The images chronicle the life and times of an assured and authoritative leader who helped guide a fledgling country to its ongoing great achievements.
The exhibition, which will run throughout Ramadan, will also feature a bespoke art display created by local Emirati artist, Hayat Abdallah.
The striking retail, leisure and dining hub will be laying on a host of activities in celebration of the Holy Month.
Hospitality areas will be set up so visitors can sample traditional Arabian coffee and dates throughout each weekend of Ramadan, while children will also be able to take part in an array of art and craft events themed around the period.
UAE roots will be honoured with traditional ayyalah performances, an incredible falconry display, a calligraphy station and a henna artist will be on hand.
To put the UAE’s rapid progress in less than half a century into sharp focus, train your eyes on the photographic exhibition capturing the successes of an iconic figure who will never be forgotten.
Free entry. Throughout Ramadan. The Galleria, Al Maryah Island (02 616 6999).
