Abu Dhabi will be awash with colour as the city’s school students honour the UAE’s founding father in a new art competition.
The Zayed Painting Contest aims to strengthen the objectives of The Year of Zayed foundation.
It forms part of a year of celebrations to mark 100 years since the birth of HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and honour his remarkable life and inspirational legacy.
The competition will gather participants from 100 schools all over the country, with the best artworks to be displayed publicly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
These include 50 schools in Dubai, 20 in Abu Dhabi, 10 in Sharjah, 5 schools each from Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Fujairah and Ajman.
The competition is being supported by Emirates Global Aluminum, along with Union Coop as Platinum Sponsor. More organisations are expected to join the initiative in the near future.

The winning artworks from 100 schools will be displayed in an exhibition for 12 days to promote and showcase the talents of the talented young artists.
The first six days of the art exhibition will be hosted in Abu Dhabi’s The Galleria from March 18 to March 23.
Then it will travel to spend six days at The Outlet Village in Dubai from March 25 to March 30.
An awards ceremony will be held after the 12 days Art Exhibition on March 31, when a panel of judges will choose three winning masterpieces in ascending order.
All winners will receive a cash prize and crystal plaque.
There will also be a list of top ten finalists who will receive a special gift pack from the Zayed Painting Contest.
To commemorate the late Sheikh Zayed’s legacy, an art collective magazine will be published at the end of the competition.
The magazine will showcase all the winning artworks and the students’ talents.
