NSO Symphony Orchestra set for last ever show in Abu Dhabi

Musical stars will bow out with movie-themed concert at Emirates Palace

The NSO Symphony Orchestra is ready to face the music – after announcing their final Abu Dhabi show.

The musical maestros, who have been striking a chord with audiences in the emirate for the past seven years, will bow out in style with a film-themed production in the grand surroundings of Emirates Palace on Friday, April 27.

Fans can secure their seat for a slice of stage history for a Dhs25 discount if they book during February.

The Night at the Movies… The Final Curtain, will be conducted by music director Andrew Berryman, who will lead the orchestra through a fantastic journey of classic film scores, including the seminal Star Wars theme, Offenbach’s toe-tapping Can-Can from Moulin Rouge and the swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean theme.

NSO founder and executive director, Janet Hassouneh, said: “NSO Symphony Orchestra has delighted discerning music lovers for the past seven years, both at the Emirates Palace and in venues across the emirates.

“With a growing number of world-class facilities opening in the UAE, attracting international soloists and orchestras, I feel it’s the right time to pass on the baton to these new purveyors, so that audiences can enjoy ever-more outstanding musical experiences.

“’The Night at the Movies… The Final Curtain’ promises to be a thrilling concert and it will certainly be a fitting finale to a wonderful journey, during which I have enjoyed the strong support of Maestro Andrew Berryman and the many talented musicians who have been part of NSO!”

Over the past seven years, NSO has performed superb orchestral pieces in concert, such as, Tchaikovsky’s 4th and 5th symphonies, Bernstein’s West Side Story, and a full production of the opera Hansel & Gretel.

The orchestra also offered able support to Andrea Bocelli when he sang for 10,000 people at du Arena in 2016, and to perform live at the screening of Disney’s animated film Frozen in the same year, the BBC’s The Blue Planet with Sir George Fenton for the opening ceremony of the Volvo Ocean Race in 2014, at the World Skills event in 2017, and to worldwide TV audiences such as the World Cup horseracing extravaganza in 2014.

The evening gala will take place at 7.30pm, while there is also a matinee at 4.30pm, which is also an 'open rehearsal', providing a fascinating opportunity to watch the orchestra and chorus at work, and see how a piece of music is shaped and polished by Maestro Berryman and the musicians as they prepare for the gala evening.

If possible, the conductor and artists may speak to the attendees following the rehearsal.

Food stations with finger-food, popcorn and beverages will be available before the performances and during the interval.

Tickets are available online now at Ticketmaster, with an Early Bird Discount of Dhs25 off all tickets for both shows, if booking during February, using special Code EB25NSO:
