Global theatre show returns to Abu Dhabi

A rapid-fire theatre festival is taking centre stage in Abu Dhabi again – and you better be quick or you’ll miss it.

The Short+Sweet Festival – which features a series of ten minute productions putting local actors, writers and directors in the spotlight – will be taking over the Arts Center at NYUAD University for the third straight year on Friday, January 19 and Saturday, January 20.

Theatre-lovers will have the chance to see ten, ten minute shows in the Blue Hall on both days as well as a Wildcard performance featuring fresh talents on the Saturday, which will see awards handed out in a range of categories including best male and female actors, best new talent and best overall play.

The Short+Sweet Festival has proved a huge hit all over the world, with performances in 23 cities, spanning seven countries.

For the People’s Choice, the audience receive a voting slip when they enter The Blue Hall and are asked to vote for their favourite play by the end.

Festival Director of the 2018 Abu Dhabi edition, Zakaia Cvitanovich said: “Short+Sweet provides a wonderful opportunity for people to give writing, directing, or acting a go… whether you’re an experienced theatre practitioner or new to the world of theater, Short+Sweet has something for everybody.”

Bill Bragin, executive artistic director at The Arts Center at NYUAD, added: “Our collaboration with Short + Sweet has created new relationships between The Arts Center and locally-based theater artists, and provides an important complement to our on-going series of visiting artists. We’re proud to offer our stage to artists from our own community. ”
