New rules for UAE transit passengers

Get out and explore Abu Dhabi

Tourists with a connecting flight in the UAE will soon be able to leave the airport and explore the city with a new transit permit scheme.

Currently, it’s common for passengers to be stuck in the airport as they wait for the next leg of the journey.

But tourism bosses want them to be able to get out and see what Abu Dhabi and Dubai have to offer.

The move is aimed at boosting tourism revenue and the local economy.

There has not yet been a date announced for the introduction of the new initiative.

But it was given the green light by the government yesterday.

A few hours might not sound like a lot of time to explore, but Abu Dhabi has got plenty of attractions you can see on a tight schedule, such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque or a whistlestop tour of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Bye, bye transit lounge!
