Yas Marina's bumper line-up of family fun

Lots to see and do for all ages

Family fun is back on the menu at Yas Marina, as bosses have announced a series of weekend activities to run through March and April and up to Ramadan in May.

Decked Out Weekends will take place every Friday and Saturday from noon until 7pm. Perfect for groups of friends and families, each week will be filled with themed activities, from Irish fun for St. Patrick’s Day to water games at the annual Splash weekend.

The promenade will be taken over by stalls and games, inflatables, big screens for children’s movies and rides for little ones to play on. We don’t know about you, but it sounds fun for adults, too.

The first event was held at the beginning of March to mark the beginning of Chinese New Year. Crowds were treated to martian arts masterclasses, origami sessions and Chinese dancing, as well as a screening of Disney’s Mulan.

This weekend you can look forward to Mexican Adventures. Across March 9 and 10 the area will be decked out with colourful Central American décor and there will be live entertainment, face painting, piñata games and stalls serving traditional Mexican delicacies. The sounds of a live mariachi band will also fill the air. There will also be a screening of 2014 movie The Book of Life. The animated film tells the tale of Manolo, a young man who has to decide whether to follow his heart or the expectations of his family. The all-star voice cast includes Diego Luna, recently seen in Star Wars: Rogue One), Zoe Saldana (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Channing Tatum (Magic Mike).

The following weekend (March 16 and 17) sees the area turned green for a St. Patrick’s Day bash.

Expect themed games, Irish dancing performances, a photo booth and more. A screening of Disney movie Brave is on Friday, March 16 at 6.30pm.

On March 23 and 24 you can celebrate your mum with Mother’s Day celebrations. Get pampered, pick up some flowers and have a family portrait taken. The Friday evening family movie is Mars Needs Moms about a young boy who learns to love his mum more after she’s abducted by Martians.

Future weekends will include SPLASH@Yas Marina. The family-friendly water sports weekend.

There will be activities to suit every age and adrenaline level, including wake-surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, wake-boarding and slack-lining above the water.

Cruises from Captain Tony’s will also be on offer and the kids’ Wet ’n’ Wild Zone will be back.

Free. Every Fri-Sat, noon-7pm. Until May 12. Yas Marina, Yas Island, www.yasmarina.ae.
