Al Maryah Island announces New Year’s Eve programme line-up

The capital’s iconic New Year’s Eve event returns with musical performances and fireworks

More than 14,000 people are expected to attend the music concerts and spectacular fireworks display that will take place at Al Maryah Island on Sunday December 31, 2017, during the annual event The Capital Celebrates. This year, the developers have partnered with leading record label Platinum Records to usher in 2018 with a star-studded line-up.

Kicking off the celebrations is Emirati-Yemeni star Balqees, who will be performing her well-known Khaleeji hits. The starlet’s second album, Zai Ma Ana, became the highest-selling and most downloaded album on iTunes in the Middle East in 2015, and, last year, she performed with Andrea Bocelli in Abu Dhabi after she was chosen by the world-renowned Italian tenor as “the best Emirati soprano”.

Following that, award-winning singer and classical vocalist Kadhim Al Sahir will perform his repertoire of songs, which spans more than three decades. As the lead coach on the Arabic version of international TV Show The Voice, Al Sahir is one of the Arab World’s most famous artists and has sold well over 100 million albums throughout his career.

Throughout the evening, and across the island, celebrators will also have access to an array of food trucks. Meanwhile, the two hotels – Rosewood Abu Dhabi and Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi at Al Maryah Island – are offering food and beverage deals, countdown parties and staycation packages. Across The Galleria, too, the dining outlets will be providing excellent food, a great atmosphere and top views of the fireworks.

At midnight, Al Sahir will lead the countdown before a thrilling fireworks display that’ll light up the capital rounding off a fabulous evening.

The event is free to attend and entry to the main concert area is on a first-come, first-served basis. We suggest you arrive early, however, as the prime spots fill up fast. Although, we’re assured that this year everyone is guaranteed a great view, thanks to large screens that will be floating on the water. Happy New Year!

Free. Doors open at 7pm, concerts start at 10pm, fireworks at midnight. Doors close at 1am. Sunday December 31, 2017.
