As golfing destinations go, you can’t get much more up-and-coming than Equatorial Guinea. This diminutive nation on Africa’s west coast is arguably most notable for the fact that it’s the only one on the continent where Spanish is the first language. And perhaps that Iberian influence has extended to its sport, with golf swiftly growing in popularity here.

We suggest heading to the Sofitel Malabo Sipopo le Golf. This luxurious resort boasts the country’s first 18-hole course that offers unforgettable mountain and sea views. But, along with a stunning backdrop for a round, this five-star venue also has plenty else to offer. Set on the populous Bioko island, the Sofitel has some 200 rooms and deluxe suites, all of which offer fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean or golf course.

The resort also offers a number of leisure activities, including boat trips. Alternatively, you could always kick back on the white sand of the private beach or enjoy a golf ball massage in the spa. If your exertions, or lack thereof, have left you feeling famished, fill up at one of the three restaurants that offer French cuisine and Guinean dishes.
