When you hear the phrase “team-building exercise” you’d be forgiven for thinking of a David Brent-style character from The Office leading you through a series of excruciatingly awful role plays. But it doesn’t have to be a farce. We bring you five fun ways to enjoy some Christmas congeniality with your colleagues…

Al Ain Raceway
Driving a one-seat kart around a circuit probably doesn’t sound like a great team-building activity. But opt for an endurance package and you’ll have to work together. You’ll take it in turns to drive the kart in races that can last anywhere between one and six hours. And you’ll be up against other teams made up of colleagues. Aggressive overtaking manoeuvres probably won’t go down too well...
Price on request. Al Ain Raceway, Khatam Al Shiklah Street, (03 768 6662).

BOUNCE Abu Dhabi

The trampoline fanatics at BOUNCE promise to “break down those social barriers” with their energetic team-building activities. And we’re sure they will with a combination of exercises that includes Frisbee, dodgeball and free jumping. Although the benefits of all this might not seem obvious at first, you can expect leadership and communication skills to be improved. Hurling dodgeballs at your colleagues will do that for you.
From Dhs70 per person. Marina Mall, (04 3211 400).

Captain Tony’s

Take your team-building activities on to the water. You might also end up in the water during these outdoor sessions. Expect lots of paddling, rowing and swimming during a team-building excursion that will take everyone out of their comfort zones.
Prices depend on party size and timings. Gangway 3, Yas Marina, (02 650 7175).

Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas

This Saadiyat Island hotel has a team dedicated to organising your office outings. With the resort situated on a scenic stretch of beach, you can take part in activities such as volleyball, raft-racing and scavenger hunts. There are also some excellent bars and restaurants on site, if you feel the need for a post-activity debrief.
Prices depend on activity and party size. Saadiyat Island, (02 407 1234).

Via Ferrata
This challenging Jebel Jais climb is a new addition to the UAE’s extreme scene. Guided by the team at tour operator Absolute Adventure, you’ll traverse more than 1km on three zip lines attached to the nation’s highest mountain. Certainly not for the faint-hearted, you’ll need all your guile and teamwork to reach the summit at 120m. Don’t look down.
Prices vary. Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah, (04 345 9900).
