A very specific cuisine, is Alsation. The region, in eastern France, sits at the border of Switzerland and Germany and who should govern it has long been a the subject of strife between the countries. What isn’t up for discussion is how good the food and drink from the region is. It’s Germanic, with lots of meat, bread and cheese used in the most popular dishes. Perhaps the area’s main gifts to the culinary world are choucroute (a local variety of sauerkraut, or sour cabbage) and flammkuchen, a thin base with various toppings (if we were being reductive we’d say it was the region’s answer to pizza). We can’t find any of the former on the menu at this chilled Yas Marina spot, but there are a few of the latter available. All including sour cream and other toppings such as onions, mushrooms, cheese and turkey bacon.

We go for the Double Duck sandwich on this occasion, which is a hearty plate of food. There’s smoked duck breast, duck rilettes and rocket piled into some brilliant laugen bread. Another main of chicken stuffed with turkey ham and cheese and lathered in more cheese is a little rich for us.

Staff are lovely and food is good value, if not typically Alsation.

The bottom line
Worth a look if you’re after casual eats.
