Review: Super cuts of meat are the star of the show Reviews

There are two things about BOA Steakhouse that you need to know. The first is that the setting, overlooking the Eastern Mangroves, is superb, especially if you’re sitting outside. The second is that the kitchen really knows how to cook a steak.

If there are downsides to the experience here, it’s that the slick dining room, which once was the pinnacle of coolness, can feel a little, well, cold if not busy, and the service can be somewhat stiff and responsive rather than proactive.
We’re sitting inside on a lunchtime, pleased to see a good-value business lunch available through the week. For Dhs115 you’ll get three courses, including a steak main.

Of the starters, a mozzarella and rocket salad would work better for us if the delightful creamy cheese wasn’t cut into such small chunks. The dressing is delicious, however, and the portion is generous.

We absolutely love the Australian Angus rib-eye, which is cooked perfectly to medium rare. It’s full of flavour. The mash that goes with it is the stuff of dreams, too.

We can live with slightly forced service when the food is this good and at these prices.

The bottom line

The superb steaks stand out above all else.

This is the kind of restaurant that someone in their 20s would find really "sophisticated" - the decor is the usual cliched combination of chrome and leather and what not, and the ambience is not really conducive to relaxing. The prices are horrendously expensive for what you get. None of the steaks are grass-fed, they're all grain-fed, and they weren't that tasty. Service was OK but the staff need more training and experience - our waitress was very friendly but kept talking to us non-stop in an over-eager attempt to explain the menu. On top of that, they have some sort of dress code - this tells you everything you need to know about this place: you're not going to be able to relax. Just another very expensive restaurant.

The foods and services are very good except that the price is a little expensive.
