Indian influences are all around us in Abu Dhabi — from the vibrant colour of Bollywood cinema to the pure theatre of the food. The city is brimming with top-quality Indian restaurants, adding a little extra spice to all of our lives.

The rich flavours, wide variety of tastes and sense of flair found in the nation’s cuisine are a hit with Abu Dhabi residents from all over the globe, so when we hear about the opening of the capital’s latest Indian venue, MYNT, in bustling Al Zahiyah, we’re keen to see what it has to offer.

We get a warm welcome from the friendly team of staff as soon as we make our way into the cosy venue.

Its smart and understated décor makes for a relaxing ambience that you could easily while away a few hours in.

The menu is packed with authentic Indian dishes, served with a modern twist.

We start our culinary journey with a portion of crispy vegetable pakoras, deep-fried and filled with potato and cauliflower, and served with a tasty tamarind and mint chutney.

More than satisfied with our appetiser, we can’t wait to try the daab chingri, a traditional Bengali speciality of shrimps soaked in a mustard, ginger and turmeric sauce, baked inside a coconut.

You eat it out of the coconut, too, and we recommend going for some rice and naan bread to mop up all the goodness.

The dish will have you reaching for your phone to get a swift Instagram snap, but once you pick up your fork, you’ll see there’s plenty of substance to go with the style.

The shrimps are fresh and tender and the curry sauce is just the right side of sweet without becoming at all sickly.

It’s a generous portion, too, and at just Dhs58 as a main course dish, it’s also really good value.

For anyone who loves Indian cuisine, MYNT really is a must.
