The culinary competition just keeps on getting hotter on Al Maryah Island – yet we are still as loco as ever for Loca.

We have been big fans of the super-cool Mexican venue ever since it swung open its doors in January. And while the Galleria’s impressive dining roster has swelled even further in recent months with the addition of
La Petite Maison and our just-crowned Best Newcomer, 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant, we still can’t wait to pay another visit.

As soon as we make our way into the spacious and stylish dining area, which catches the eye with its stripped-back, industrial look and vibrant artwork, we swiftly feel right at home again.

Arriving for a lunch service, the restaurant is still busy but has a more chilled-out vibe than during the night and the daylight offers the added bonus of superb views of the glittering waters of Al Maryah Island.

Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and help navigate through the wealth of tasty options on the menu.
We kick off with a massive plate of beef nachos that we tackle with relish. The beef is tender and cooked perfectly, while the crispy nachos are lifted by big dollops of guacamole and sour cream.

The chicken quasadillas are another hit, with beautiful cubes of meat encased in floury tortillas. It’s a simple dish, but hits the spot.

Portions here are very generous, so we are already feeling pretty full as our main courses are served. When we see the fajitas brought sizzling to our table, we soon perk up. The explosive flavours please the palate and we are also impressed with the pollo en mole, a succulent grilled chicken with a traditional sauce, served on a bed of buttered spinach and courgette.

There might be some fresh tastes in town, but Loca is still up there with the best.

The bill (for two)
1 x Chicken fajitas Dh120
1 x Pollo en mole Dhs115
1 x Chicken quesadillas Dhs80
1 x Nachos de la Casa Dhs80
1 x Large water Dhs15
Total Dhs410

The bottom line
We still love it at vibrant Loca.
