You know you are in a classy type of sports bar when the chicken wings come with a side serving of plastic gloves and you get actual crisps as a snack.

But that, as impressive as it may be, is not the only reason you will feel you are moving into the top-flght of capital watering-holes when you step into the Sports Café.

Based in the heart of the plush, five-star Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, the venue immediately scores big with its décor, boasting a striking marble-topped bar, where guests can pick a seat and watch the live action unfold on the multitude of big screens above, and a cosy lounge area where you can take a load off on a comfy leather sofa and enjoy a meal without missing a minute of the sport.

The menu is impressive, too, with a wide variety of pub grub favourites such as burgers, fish and chips, calamari, a tasty array of sandwiches and even a trusty shawarma.

We kick off with those chicken wings, which are lathered in barbecue sauce and are definitely finger-lickingly good but, thanks to our gloves, we don’t get in a sticky situation.

The guacomole, served with a bumper bowl full of tortilla chips, adds an extra spicy kick before we head to the main dishes, which you really should build up an appetite for before trying.

The fish and chips comes in the form of three huge chunks of cod with a generous serving of crispy chips.

The super-sized French and Mexican sandwich, is so gigantic, and loaded with fillings, that we don’t even feel
a hint of shame about asking the friendly staff if we can take away our leftovers.

The massive portions are big on flavour, too, and good value, so you will never feel short changed here.

If you are after a Premier League quality bar, make this your next ‘sport’ of call.

The bill (for two)
1x French and Mexican sandwich Dhs70
1x Fish and chips Dhs65
1x buffalo chicken wings Dhs55
1x guacamole Dhs45
Total Dhs235

The bottom line
A stylish spot for a meal and a match.
