Jones the Grocer

Review: Bustling café and deli with a great vibe Discuss this article

This branch of jones the grocer serves a community. Whenever you visit you will find groups of friends and families catching up at all times of day, whether it’s post-workout, post-school run or for a lazy weekend breakfast, this is clearly the place to be.

It’s licensed, too, so it also works for an evening meal if that’s what tickles your fancy.

The appeal is clear to see. It’s a pleasant place, with charming staff and a good range of dishes available. It’s also a deli so you can take home all kinds of foodstuffs and kitchen utensils to use later.

Breakfast is always a big hit here (served until noon on weekdays and 4pm at weekends). However, on this occasion, we’re a little let down by the portions. Our plate has two small eggs, artfully placed asparagus, toast and a few dots of labneh and dukkah. It tastes good but increasing its size by about 25 percent would make it better value for Dhs44.

Main courses are top here, the wagyu burger is heartily recommended. The meat is juicy and it comes with creamy avocado and crispy onions. It’s absolutely delicious.

It’s unlikely jones will change your life, but it’ll certainly make it better.

The bottom line
One of the best all-rounders in the city.
