Le Beaujolais

Review: Affordable, bistrot-style French fair that’s as tasty as it is simple Reviews

Le Beaujolais has been around for almost 28 years. The restaurant has seen the landscape around it change over the decades, but through all of that it has remained its simple, humble self.

Although located in the Mercure Abu Dhabi Centre Hotel, the restaurant’s decor is like a cosy bistro you’d find in one of more traditional Parisian arrondissements. Large mirrors, twisted light fixtures and checked table cloths are all present and correct. The food too, is presented simply. There are no bells or whistles, but who needs them when everything on the plates are so good.

The salmon tart may be listed as an appetiser but it could very well be a light meal in itself. Its base is flaky and the zing of the accompanying sauce cuts through the rich filling and it comes with a basic side salad.

The Angus fillet is rustic-looking – think meat and three veg – and immensely satisfying. The shepherd’s pie, labelled “grandma’s recipe”, is like receiving a warm hug from the matriarch herself.

If you’re looking for a welcoming spot that won’t break the bank (and comes with a side order of charming service) this is the place for you.

The bottom line
No frills, but plenty of culinary thrills.

It is simple French food like you would find in a bistrot in France, without the ridiculous prices you can find in wanabe French restaurants abroad. It is laid back & cozy, the live jazz duo on Friday night is great, the food is tasty and the service makes you feel comfortable. If you're getting tired of all the crowd, bling, fake, m'as-tu-vu you find in the other hotel restaurants, go there for sure!! Les Francais, y'a de la souris d'agneau, entre autres bonneries!!

Had a lovely dinner at this restaurant last evening. The server was excellent. He was pleasant and friendly and made the evening.
The steak was incredible.. melt in your mouth and flavourful.
Yes, of course I will be back before I have to leave Abu Dhabi. I will also recommend this place to people.

We went for a lunch on a Saturday on recommendations.
Strange entry...thru a empty coffee shop/cafe...not a impressive start.
menu is simple but promising...ordered.
I asked about the fish and the duck and settled on the duck .
Soup was great
partners tuna salad had TINNED TUNA !
my chicken liver salad was ok

interestingly i got the fish! it was dry nothing earth shattering,
partner had the stuffed chicken, "not worth a mention" was the review.

All in all a pretty disappointing Saturday lunch after expecting something better. Maybe the FT chef was on his day off?

The previous reviewers obviosuly know nothing about French food otherwise their reviews would be different. This is a little piece of provincial France in the Middle East...................Simply excellent food.

I LOVE this place!! Every time I'm in Abu Dhabi I make sure to stop in for dinner.

The "lamb chunk" (aka shank) is AMAZING!

Had the Boeuf Bourguignon and was excellent. Decor needs upgrading and the restaurant is in the process of doing the same at the moment (September 2009). As a result the restaurant has temporarily moved to the 1'st floor. Service was slow at time but the quality of the food and the reasonably priced menu made up for the lack of service.

I was celebrating my birthday there with my hubby, we ordered Beef Fondue, it was excellent, the quality of the beef is so good, and it's not too oily, the salad can be refilled, the price is reasonable.

There's a little stage for the live band singing french song, the ambience is so good, so romantic, all staff are very friendly. it's overall very good.

Service is a bit weak but the food is tasty and reasonably authentic, served quick and hot.

Its worth a visit and the price guide is not as high as suggested here.
