Review: A Bavarian delight that stays true to its culinary roots Reviews

You can enjoy the whole world on a plate in the multi-cultural melting pot that is Abu Dhabi but, apart from when Oktoberfest rolls into town, German cuisine still feels a little neglected.

We love the hearty, meaty grub borne out of Bavaria, so we couldn’t wait to make a return to the city’s original German restaurant, Brauhaus.

The original and, we reckon, still the best. It is authentic all the way, from the music selection to the German hops on tap.

The dark wooden interior and moody lighting create an intimate atmosphere inside, while the spacious garden makes for a picturesque setting now the weather is cooling down.

Won over by the ambience, we soon fall in love with the food, too. The Brahaus burger gets a little messy, but we don’t mind. Tender strands of pulled Bavarian meat are topped off with a fried egg and gooey cheese, while the pickled beetroot offers a sharp and satisfying contrast. It is complemented by crispy fries that we quickly demolish along with the juicy burger.

The curry ketchup-soaked German beef sausages are also a huge hit, while there is a good selection of cold cuts and other meaty morsels we can’t wait to try out on our next visit. German tradition is in good hands here.

The bottom line
A tasty slice of German life.

Nice place for good German beer and pub like ambiance
Good points: German food and beer, pork dishes and outside area
When not to busy staff is really friendly
What I want to mention:
- Charge of 10Dhs for each order (Strongly recommend to open a tab to avoid multiple charges).
- Arrive early if you wish to sit down or book a table if coming in group.
Overall like the place and will go back

We went to Brauhaus for a Saturday lunch and had a lovely time.

The staff are friendly and attentive and the food is just amazing, all washed down with some very nice German Ale.

I can't wait to go back!

Brauhaus does a very good job of recreating a fairly authentic German atmosphere, serves very good to excellent food, and has, as the review notes, a good range of refreshing what-we're-supposed-to-call "hoppy beverages".

Given the paucity of such places in Abu Dhabi (and adding in the cook's expert treatment of a wide range of dishes made with, shall we say, non-halal meats), Brauhaus stands out in the capital's restaurant scene as a singularly successful import and a truly enjoyable place to spend some time. For quieter folks, the non-smoking dining room separate from the bar area is a real plus, as well.
