If you’re a regular reader or long-time Abu Dhabi resident, Nolu’s will need little introduction, but it’s latest branch offers a something a little different to the others.

Already known for serving healthy food, Raw by Nolu’s takes things a step further. The menu, as you might expect, is mainly made up of dishes that don’t require any actual cooking (don’t worry, the venue’s signature Afghani kebabs are still there, too, but that’s about it).

We’re here at lunchtime, and it’s busy. Luckily we grab the last table, or you’d be reading a review of a bag of crisps from Allday Minimart on this page.

The dining room is cosy, with brown bricks walls and little potted plants that complement the vibrant green upholstery. It’s not huge, but that makes the vibe all the better.

Here you’ll find courgette noddles in place of pasta and wraps instead of burgers. There’s a focus on superfoods and healthy bowls and also cold-pressed juices, nut milks and detox drinks.

You can almost feel the turmeric chai working its magic as you sip on it; cardamom, ginger, almond milk, dates – it’s got a lot of good stuff in it.

Just as comforting is the barley soup. It’s gently spiced and the sprigs of coriander give it a lovely freshness. Tofu tacos are loaded with vibrant vegetables and strips of lightly grilled tofu and soft corn tortillas are swapped out for crunchy lettuce leaves. The serving comes with a side of salsa and guacamole – which has a nice sour kick.

Superfood bowls are build-your-own style; pick a base, a protein and a dressing. The buddha bowl is packed with all things green – kale, avocado, broccoli and edamame – plus shreds of carrot. A fillet of well-cooked, poached salmon sits on top. It’s another comforting, satisfying dish. Which is what Raw by Nolu’s does best.

The bill (for two)
1x cup barley soup Dhs27
1x buddha bowl Dhs70
1x healthy bowl salmon Dhs10
1x veggie tacos Dhs65
1x detoxifier Dhs24
1x turmeric chai Dhs25
1x large water Dhs22
Total Dhs243

The bottom line
Manages to be niche but still tasty.
