If there’s one thing that Thailand and its native restaurants are brilliant at, it’s giving a warm welcome. So, even when the venue’s atmopshere is ice cold (due to it being completely empty) the brilliant staff here go a long way to thawing it out.

We’re dining on a weekday lunchtime, so we aren’t expecting a packed house, but it’s still a little odd to be able to hear every clink of glass or rattling of cutlery. It’s also a real shame, because the food here is among the best Thai in the city. It’s a little more pricey than unlicensed places in Abu Dhabi (and a whole load more so than in Bangkok) but there are also other Asian restaurants in the city that represent poorer value for money.

The crispy fish salad is the least impressive dish on our latest visit. The deep fried fish pieces (cold in this version) are rendered soggy by the dressing and don’t taste of much. The fish cakes are better, bursting with flavour and accompanied by a top sweet chilli sauce. The main is better still. The prawns in the massaman curry are huge but retain succulency and texture and the curry itself is rich and reminscent of meals in Thailand. No mean feat.

Things are done properly here. We like it a lot.

The bottom line

Deserves to have more customers.
