When it comes to Hakkasan, forget everything you think you know about Chinese restaurants. It serves traditionally-made food to a contemporary audience using local ingredients in a super-chic environment.

The upmarket chain has been in the capital since 2010 and is still going strong.

The swanky setting of Emirates Palace is the perfect place for the restaurant. As you navigate the gold-strewn corridors there is no mistaking that this is a classy way to enjoy Chinese food. It’s about as far away from instant noodles as you can get.

Everything about the restaurant feels exclusive, from the dim lighting to the attentive staff. And the prices reflect that, with a half Peking duck costing Dhs480.

To start, try the stir fry mixed nut lettuce wrap – crunchy, sticky and umami-heavy – and the roasted mango duck. They’re as unusual as they are tasty.

For mains, check out the senpei chicken claypot. It’s robust and full of flavour. The spicy prawn curry is best avoided, though. It lacks texture, flavour and overall pizazz. A light vanilla crème brûlée with tart quenelles of apple sorbet is the perfect refreshing dessert.

Hakkasan, then, a restaurant that’s still evolving, still innovating and still brilliant.

The bottom line

More than your average Chinese joint.

I thought that the ambience & service was first rate. The quality of the ingredients was high. As someone who has lived in China, Hong Kong & SE Asia for many years, I thought that the food was only reasonable not exceptional..

I'm so glad I found this place, finally a place in Emirates Palace where you get a great package for your money!

Service: Very attentive, friendly, quick and knowledgeable about the food and the preparation. The sommelier is helpful in selecting fitting wines.
Location: Great view, the balcony terrace is facing the Etihad towers.
Music: Loungy music, inside a little bit too loud for my taste.
Food, wine and cocktails: Excellent!

I will come again and will recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Price for a dinner for two persons:
2 main dishes
3 sides
2 desserts
4 glasses of wine
1 cocktail
1 porter wine
1 big bottle of water
Price about 1100 AED including service fees and tourist tax.

This was our first time visiting Hakkasan and we were thoroughly impressed with the whole dining experience. The stylish bar is very well stocked, the decor and atmosphere is top notch. The service we received was friendly and attentive with the food being some of the best we have tasted.

The two of us ordered;
Duck with mango along with the Hakka dim sum platter for starters
For the main course we had Scallops wrapped in prawns and then the Smoked wagyu beef.

The food was fresh, vibrant and surprisingly plentiful.
The menu had so much more we really wanted to try but will have to leave for our next visit.

The cocktail menu is also worthy of note with the Hakka and Chinese Mule being amongst our favourites.

I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, fantastic!
