NRG Sports Café
A reliable, lively spot to watch a big game with mates Discuss this article
- Picture 1 of 2
Sporting memorabilia adorns every corner of this bar. There’s even a replica Formula 1 car parked at the entrance.
The space inside is fitted with a number of televisions, and there’s a large screen outside as well. However, since it is located in The Village Garden, music from the neighbouring venues can sometimes drown out the commentary if you’re watching a game outside.
The menu dishes are standard pub grub (and a token couscous salad, for the health conscious diners).
We try it ourselves, and the zesty lemon dressing is mixed through the grains with chunks of feta, onion, tomatoes, carrots and cucumber. It’s tasty and a good-sized portion, too.
The most popular item, however, is the fajitas. Served with fresh guacamole, salsa and sour cream, the spicy mix of meat, onions and peppers come to your table for you to assemble yourself. Great,
if messy, fun.
NRG can get busy on the weekend, which is fine if you like to cheer your team on with a bunch of mates or fellow supporters. But, if you want to eat, make sure you get in early to grab a seat. If you do, you’ll be in for a good night.
The bottom line
A decent spot to watch the match. And the food is good, too.
