Crystal chandeliers, white tablecloths, subdued upholstery and an amuse-bouche to welcome you… Not quite the set-up you’d expect when you imagine an Indian restaurant. But Punjab Grill isn’t your typical Indian eatery. Located in the charming Venetian Village, it offers a refined take on the fare.
The menu boasts a collection of modernised North Indian classics, along with a line-up of innovative creations. You won’t find sloppy gravies reliant on spoonfuls of garam masala for flavour here. Instead, the courses are rather restrained. Take for example, the paneer masala.
It’s a thick, tomato-based gravy broken up with squares of soft paneer. The mildly-spiced dish is simply done, but very satisfying.
Dal makhani, another staple, has a reputation of being rich, however, the version here isn’t too heavy, so you won’t feel like you’ve overdone it on the creamed lentils dish.
If you’re looking for a carb-loaded dish, look no further than the chicken biryani. The boneless pieces of meat are juicy and succulent. And each grain of rice sings with flavour.
The icing on the cake is the team. They remain attentive and thoughtful throughout and are well-read on the menu.
The bottom line
One of the best Indian restaurants in the capital. A must-visit.
