We’re going crazy for this Mexican restaurant on Al Maryah Island Discuss this article
You may have already heard of Loca. It has two branches in Dubai, after all. And it’s been much talked about since it opened its first branch in Abu Dhabi earlier this year. Rightly so, too. The impressive new hotspot on Al Maryah Island is fresher, newer (obviously) and a notch above its counterparts in Dubai in terms of vibe.
It’s a big, beautiful venue – ultra-modern, stylish and just, well, cool. There is plenty of table seating inside, as well as stools around the glowing, red bar, and a terrace that overlooks the shimmering Al Maryah waters beyond.
Grabbing a seat anywhere guarantees a good time, with the entire restaurant buzzing with good vibes. It hasn’t been open long, but already it’s very popular with punters popping in just for drinks or for a full meal.
We recommend going for the full experience because the food is excellent. Be warned, though – the portions are huge. We start with the Oaxaca cheese-stuffed jalapeño locas and the guacamole cangrejo, which is topped with fresh crab, and comes with sides of salsa and tortilla chips. The flavours in the dips are well-balanced, and we can’t stop scooping and eating, despite knowing that the mains are still on their way. We manage to tear ourselves away, and push the starter plates aside, just as the gigantic plates of tacos and the huge burrito arrive at our table. We were eyeing up the enchiladas while ordering, but our waiter nudged us towards the burrito de camarones. We’re glad we listened because it blows us away. The soft tortilla wrap hides perfectly cooked spiced prawns and vegetables with a tomato sauce, then topped with a moreish habanero cream. The corn-fed chicken tacos are also good, but they simply can’t match up to that burrito.
The bill (for two)
1x tacos de pollo Dhs75
1x burrito de camarone Dhs95
1 jalapeños locas Dhs57
1x guacamole cangrejo Dhs85
1x small water Dhs12
total (service and tax incl.) Dhs324
The bottom line
We’re already loco for Loca.
