This brunch is so laidback that you wouldn’t be surprised to find people taking a siesta in a quiet corner. And some of the guests at the adjacent beach club most probably are asleep, soaking up the sun on the stylish sunloungers next to the pool.

But it pays to stay wide awake to make the most of this Friday afternoon treat. It’s not the biggest or most varied brunch you’ll find, but the quality is generally high and you’re sure to find something you like.

There’s a section of salads in tiny jars (a bit tricky to fish out with the spoons), including Middle Eastern favourites such as fattoush and hummus. You can add some beef cold cuts to your greens, plus the obligatory sushi.

Seafood takes pride of place at this brunch, and you’ll see a huge table groaning under the weight of lobsters, prawns and mussels on ice. There’s also a station where chefs will rustle up ceviche to order.

But this brunch comes into its own when you venture outside. The tables set up on the terrace look out over the pool and across to the ocean. Mellow pop hits are played at a volume that still allows conversation, creating a relaxed vibe.

There is also more food to try out there. A buffet of decent curries lines one wall, but the star of the show is the barbecue. The chef will cook up lamb chops, king fish, tiger prawns and chicken skewers. This is where you’ll need to loosen your belt, especially if you later decide to tackle the sweets on the dessert table.

While most of the food is enjoyable, some dishes fall flat, such as the stodgy dim sum. And the service is a bit inconsistent, veering between assured and confused. But push this to one side and you’ll have an utterly chilled-out Friday.

The bottom line
A relaxing beach club with a decent brunch offering.
Dhs275 (soft drinks), Dhs375 (bubbly and house beverages), Dhs475 (premium bubbly). Fri 1pm-4pm. Saadiyat Beach Club, Saadiyat Island (02 656 3500).

My Husband and I went for Friday Brunch at Le Deck. We had very high expectation from the place as we have been to couple of good brunches in Abu Dhabi. But unfortunately we were very disappointed with the whole package. The only good point was the view. The view is very nice. The Brunch isnt actually a brunch. It is a set menu with very less/ practically no choices. There is a three course menu with three/four items every time. The food isn't delicious. It is just a normal tapas food with nothing special about the taste or presentation. I was looking forward to a good brunch which unfortunately didn't happen.Even the Desserts weren't good. Though they have a live station for the desserts which actually is like a brunch. I wouldn't recommend it to people who would want to visit the place for the brunch. It isn't worth. Talking about the prices. It is very very expensive to what we get. They offer three packages. Two for Alcoholic and one non alcoholic. We opted for the house wine option which to our surprise didnt have cocktails included in it. Generally in all brunches we have been too included cocktails. It is hence overly priced for what options of food/drinks we get. Again reiterating the point that it was a disappointment to a brunch which we were looking forward to attend.Hence not recommended to the Friday Brunch Lovers. The view no doubt is great and that is the only plus point Le Deck had to offer to us.

The service was very good and the manager made himself known to us stating that he and his staff were happy to help with any request. The food is of a high standard and is thoughfully presented. The drinks menu is extensive and fairly reasonably priced. We enjoyed our visit very much and will return during these cooler months. Booking ahead is a must.
